The heart assumed another context, one of distance and immensity, beating in the blood plum raptures of a galaxy in formation. He felt the passion of the body, its adaptive drive over geologic time, the poetry and chemistry of its origins in the dust of old exploding stars. How dwarfed he felt by his own heart.

Which women in your life inspire you and which actresses you look up to?
On Casting Marion Cotillard in The Immigrant:
“The big challenge obviously was her Polish, which turned out to be fantastic. One day, I asked the actress who plays her aunt what she thought of Marion’s Polish. She said it was excellent but she had a slight German accent. I confronted Marion and she said: “I know, my character is from Silesia, which is between Germany and Poland, I’m doing it on purpose.” That’s how precise she is! It knocked me out.” — James GrayWatch the first clip of Marion Cotillard & Joaquin Phoenix in The Immigrant here
narcissablacks replied to your post: Gosling has been downgraded to a prop. a critic…
i feel like people either love nicolas winding refns work or hate it.
exactly. but the thing here (and that bothers me because it’s not common) is that critics must know on some level the director, what he/she wants to achieve, his/her style, and i mean it’s fine if they don’t like it but when they call the film lethargic or call ryan’s performance ‘robotic’ is because they do not know refn’s way of handling things. all these bad reviews are actually getting me more pumped to see the film tbh (◡‿◡✿)
“Gosling has been downgraded to a prop.” a critic says about Ryan’s performance in Only God Forgives.

You’ve kept him alive so that he can die at the proper moment. You’ve been raising him like a pig for slaughter.
